Good writing demands that writers consistently use proper (standard) sentence structure. This grammar-foundation module provides an in-depth study of the parts of speech. This includes learning 70 grammar terms and learning the function of all words, phrases, and clauses in sentences.

The EGUMPP Grammar module is the best and easiest way to build a solid grammar foundation.

Targeted Writing Competencies
These are the target writing competencies that each individual should achieve after completing Module I.
  • Write sentences that have a one-word noun subject, sentences that have a gerund phrase subject, sentences that have an infinitive phrase subject, and sentences that have a noun clause subject.
  • Write sentences that have a main verb that is transitive, sentences that have a main verb that is intransitive, and sentences that have a main verb that is linking.
  • Write sentences that have a one-word noun direct object, sentences that have a gerund phrase direct object, sentences that have an infinitive phrase direct object, and sentences that have a noun clause direct object.
  • Write sentences that have an indirect object.
  • Write sentences that have a subject complement that is a predicate nominative and sentences that have a subject complement that is a predicate adjective.
  • Write sentences that include a one-word adjective, sentences that include an adjective prepositional phrase, sentences that include a participial phrase, and sentences that include an adjective clause.

Tutorial Exercise Details
  • Each tutorial exercise focuses on a specific part of speech and the technique for identifying this part of speech in sentences.
  • In this exercise, a series of sentences is displayed on the screen. Following step-by-step instructions, an individual must identify the function of each word in the sentence. With each step, audio explanations, examples, and reminders are available. Lesson 1 begins with identifying the subject, and by Lesson 20 ends with identifying all words, phrases, clauses, and sentence types.
